ABOUT DOBERMANS
Dobermans are an incomparable breed of elegance, power, and intelligence. They are dutiful watchdogs, diligent working dogs, and loving pets. When carefully bred and raised, Dobermans excel in sports and in their beloved homes. However, due to many historic events, the breed now suffers from several diseases and, due to this as well as inconsistent working ability, the breed has unfortunately fallen out of favor with many working/sports dog communities. This means that the average Doberman will likely encounter some form of heart disease (Dilated Cardiomyopathy), liver disease (hepatitis), neurological disease (Wobbler Syndrome or Cervical Vertebral Instability), or cancer. You must know this before you adopt or buy any Doberman and you should not be fooled by anyone who denies these facts. There are no lines free of disease, and most have multiple issues. But knowledge is power. And when you know what you are working with, you know how to do better. We know better, and we are doing better.

DOBERMAN HEALTH
HEART HEALTH
Dobermans have an estimated prevalence of 58% for developing Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). There are no lines clear of DCM. The best way to identify and protect against it is yearly Echocardiograms and 24-hour Holters. We do both.
LIVER HEALTH
Dobermans appear to be overrepresented for hepatitis, often associated with copper storage issues. Liver disease can be detected early by blood tests: a full chemistry and complete blood count. We perform yearly blood testing
NEUROLOGICAL
Wobbler Syndrome (or Cervical Vertebral Instability) is caused by spinal cord compression due to disease of the neck discs. Diagnosis requires careful observation and advanced imaging. We are managed by a veterinarian and specialists are consulted regularly
